Eye Candy

I love gazing at art & people watching. I can't decide which I like better, but both at the same time? Yes.

David Lynch's photos were grouped in sets of four at Michael Kohn Gallery, set to an incredible soundtrack by Danger Mouse.

The photos alone aren't necessarily disturbing or dark, but when you take a closer look...
A happy couple poses in front of their home.

Behind closed doors...

Creepy. Intriguing.
Let's lighten things up and people watch.

I realize I took photos of guys, so let's end with a trio of my favorite subject... the ladies!

Dark Night of the Soul

I was driving down Beverly a few days ago & saw Michael Kohn Gallery in such a shambles, I thought it was shuttered. Turns out the gallery was preparing for a show opening tonight featuring the artwork of David Lynch & music of Danger Mouse.

According to the gallery:

Fifty of Lynch's photographs are mounted on aluminum panels that seem to float on the gallery walls, reinforcing the moody rhythms of the music from Danger Mouse's and Sparklehorse's album Dark Night of the Soul that will play throughout the gallery. The installation encourages a fully enveloping experience that surpasses the individual visual or auditory elements.

Dark Night of the Soul
Opening - 5pm May 30th

Michael Kohn Gallery
8071 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA
Show runs May 30–July 11, 2009

If you miss the show, there's a limited edition book featuring the photographs and a blank, recordable CD-R. All copies will be clearly labeled, "Fo Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will." Why?

Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night of the Soul without fear of being sued by EMI.

Heart of Glass

I recently watched Blue Velvet for the first time.
Now, I'd like to stay home and watch Mullholland Drive over and over again. (Which I've seen and love.)
Getting my fix with Gucci's first tv commercial, also directed by David Lynch.
This was for spring 2008, but it makes me crave the fall.

Au Revoir Gals

I love Au Revoir Simone.
We had tickets to see my favorite boys - Vampire Weekend - at the El Rey last night, but had to sell them because now I'm a morning show girl. :)
So why not post the most beautiful brunette band on the planet, who performed with one of my favorite men on earth - David Lynch.
He helps writes the music for his films, so I can guess he can boss them around. He is their elder after all. Ha.

Guy Bourdin

I'll admit it. The first time I heard Guy Bourdin's name was when someone said Madonna copied his style for her "Hollywood" video. I love that video.
Then I saw his photographs & saw the similarities. He's the OG, a fashion photographer who also made short films. He was born in the twenties and died in the nineties. I can't get enough of his style. These photos are all from his site www.guybourdin.org/gallery

To see how Madonna was inspired by his style... watch the vid, then search his name on youtube for Bourdin's short films. I also see similarities to David Lynch... anyway, I've been looking at fashion photography & his are among my favorites.

Powder Room Tour

Some of you have asked for more photos of the powder room. I'm a total amateur photographer so Simba's coming along for moral support. Let's go down the hall to check it out, shall we?

It's hidden behind a pocket door.

The kohler toilet has become quite the conversation piece. Who knew it would be such a hit? Most people don't know how to flush it. (Touch the left side.) The wallpaper is Florence Broadhurst with the colors customized by W&R.

We're at one of my favorite things in the room. This sketch features Oyster Boy by Tim Burton. (Yes, I saw Sweeney Todd & loved it.) In this drawing he's decided to dress as a human for Halloween. If you haven't already read it, The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy is a must-read.
Ron Woodson & Patrick Ediger selected the framing. Isn't it perfection?

To the right is the sink is from ZGallerie, the trophies are vintage from the 20's & the mirror is Horchow. The brass mirror was mine growing up.

Below is a look at the detail. The sconce is Restoration Hardware. Custom lampshades by W&R.

Below is the rain shower. I believe it's a Kohler showerhead in polished nickel. The glass door is custom & the fixtures Kohler too... The marble tiles are polished carrera marble from Ann Sacks.

If you look down Little Miss Trouble is celebrating an open door with a playful tailchasing. The floor is Ann Sacks polished marble too... the base is American Standard.

Here's a closer look at the tile. They were customized cuts. I love the look of elongated subway tile. We saw a similar cutout in a magazine for the toiletries. It saves space and you don't see it immediately.

Here's the view as you look out. These little figurines are from Jonathan Adler & (even though they've been knocked over at a few parties) they are troopers. They stand the test of time.

That's it for the pint-sized powder room. Well, here's the photo you see before walking in. Most people don't even notice it if the bathroom door is open. Pink steals the show. It's a beloved piece by David Lynch. I love that man. I remember Robert chasing him down at the NBC lot. Lynch was walking to his car with his signature cigarette hanging out of his mouth. A swirl of cigarette smoke hung over his silver pompadour.

Robert asked what the old couple meant in Mulhulland Drive. David said pay close attention to the opening sequence. We still don't get it. (If you know please tell us.) I love DL anyway & his daily weather report too.

Everything you see is designed by Woodson & Rummerfield. The art was chosen by Robert beforehand. :)
